While your resume is your chance to make a great first impression, your cover letter (or lack of one), is the first thing a recruiter will notice about you. Including a cover letter will give businesses a comprehensive look at a job applicant and what they offer. Below are 3 cover letter must-haves.
- Show your knowledge of the company – and the position you’re applying for. Why do you want to be a part of this company? What achievements of this company impresses you?
- Sell yourself. Follow up what you know about the company with what you can bring to it. Why are you a good fit for both the company and the position you’re applying for? Here’s your chance to highlight a specific accomplishment you’re proud of or list your skills.
- Keep it short and well written. Just like your resume, you want to keep the cover letter clean and to the point. All you need are a couple of paragraphs. And proofread, proofread, proofread.
